Why Give?

So 2012 will be all about limitless giving for us!

We will be running a 52 week series documenting what we are up to each week and how and what we are giving away. We will also be featuring some of the amazing work that African women change-makers aka D.I.V.A.s, are doing all over the world.

This will be documented via

The African D.I.V.A.s online channel;

The D.I.V.A of the Month feature;

– Radio, TV and social media

Why Give?

Why not? A candle does not lose its light by lighting another candle. It only makes the room brighter. I have been immensely blessed all my life by givers. These are people who have believed in me and invested their time, talent, money or even just a kind word into my life and thus contributed so much to bringing me to where I am. I also as a result, don’t hold back from giving as I have found some of the most fulfilling moments in my life have been when I am giving. So I know the power of giving and how it can bless not only the recipient but the giver too.

I is for Intelligence

I believe we can all give. We all have something to give whether we see it or not. The I in D.I.V.A stands for inspired and intelligent. Intelligence isn’t just about classroom As, its about being resourceful which is simply “what can I do with what I have to maximize its effect for the benefit of self and others”? Its about application of knowledge to a situation. So when we talk about giving its not just money or material stuff- it includes the giving of time, services, talent, spotlight, recognition etc to and by women who are making it happen for themselves and impacting the lives of others as well.

Our Goals
We have 2 goals for this series:
– To impact the lives of 1 million people by our giving and the stories shared by the end of 2012 and create a snowball effect.
– To recognize and award 100 African women change-makers worldwide for their work and initiatives which impact the lives of others by the end of 2012

We want YOUR story!
What are you giving? We want to hear your story! Share it and inspire others to do the same.

 Our Greatest Fear — Marianne Williamson

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us

 Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,

Our presence automatically liberates others.
