Lelemba Phiri is an award winning educator, writer, keynote speaker and angel investor. She is a director and shareholder for Zoona, an African mobile payments business that enables community entrepreneurs to provide much needed financial services in their communities and Africa Trust Academy a coaching and consulting company focused on supporting organisations to drive diversity and scale. Lelemba is passionate about women leadership and entrepreneurship development in Africa and has committed her life’s work to advancing equality for women.
Lelemba has worked with private, public and government organizations for over 15 years with experience extending across South Africa, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Angola and other sub-Saharan countries. Her work experience at strategic and executive levels included having been a regional managing director and heading key functions such as marketing, training and development and finance in multi-nationals. She has also provided leadership and personal development training at various organisations including lecturing and keynotes at Universities such as University of Cape Town, University of Cambridge, Oxford University, Rhodes University, University of Zambia and University of the Free State.
Lelemba holds a Masters Degree in Development Finance with distinction from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. She is a UK Certified Chartered Accountant (FCCA) and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting (Hon) from the Oxford Brookes University (UK). She has also received extensive personal and business development training from various world renowned experts such as Dr John Demartini, Roger Hamilton and Robert Kiyosaki including training on organizational effectiveness and staff development experts from Vital Smarts.
Lelemba was the financial expert TV presenter for SABC 3’s lifestyle magazine show, The Power Within. She is also the author of an e-book entitled ‘Financial Fitness in Five Workouts’. She has been featured in several media including CNBC Africa, the Oprah magazine, Destiny Magazine, Cosmopolitan magazine, the New York based Diaspora Voice Talk Show, Radio France, Zambia Daily Mail and South Africa FM.
Lelemba was awarded as one of the top 5 most influential marketers in the world by World Maketing Congress and was named one of 50 change-makers advancing gender equality in South Africa by Treeshake in 2018. She is a 2016 Cordes Fellow, an honour awarded to 50 of the world’s most promising emerging social entrepreneurs who are identified to be high-impact and innovative with a demonstrated commitment to economic justice and poverty alleviation. She was named as one of African’s most influential women in business and government in 2014 by CEO Magazine and was the recipient of a Zambian Woman of the Year Award in 2015. Lelemba was awarded the Rising Star Award for 2010 at the Mwape Peer Awards in Washington DC in recognition of her contribution towards financial education in communities and was a nominee for Shoprite Woman of the Year Award for 2012.
