Taking wise counsel on the journey

Last Friday I was privileged to be invited to speak on Zoona’s $15m Series B fundraise and how we are gearing up for our next growth phase on Finweek’s Money Matters Program on CNBC Africa.

Being in the studios reminded me about how I had auditioned to be a Continuity Announcer for Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation when I was 18yrs old. At the time, my brother in law Oswald Mutale, was completely against the idea of me becoming one! I needed to raise money to go towards paying for my tertiary studies and his concern was that there was the possibility that once I got onto T.V. I would get comfortable with the ‘little fame’ and ditch plans to further my education. I sulked for a couple of days and he said to me “My sweetheart, don’t worry about being on T.V. now, once you are educated you will be on T.V. for so many important things so focus on school now.”…

It made me think about how important it is to have people who will give you wise counsel on your journey. The people you trust, those you know can and will tell you what you need to hear even when it may not necessarily be what you want to hear! Your mastermind group, trusted confidantes, best-buds, Lean In Circle crew… whatever you call them… we all need them.

So it was a real pleasure to be able to discuss how Zoona is Helping Communities Thrive and how the Series B investment of $15m will enable us to increase financial inclusion in Africa and enable emerging entrepreneurs to provide much needed financial services in their communities …

I think that’s what my in-law Oswald meant by “important things”…

Here’s to thanking the people who are with us on our paths. ????

Here’s to helping more communities to thrive ????

You can watch the video of the interview below and remember to surround yourself with wise counsel this week????
